PADI Open Water Course

Want to start your diving adventure? The PADI Open Water course is your frist step that allows individuals to explore the underwater world safely and confidently. This course is for individuals who have little or no diving experience and provides you with the necessary skills and knowledge to get your diving adventure started.

And what better place to learn how to dive than the Galapagos Islands?

The Course

During this 3 or 4 day course our certified PADI instructors will teach you everything you need to know to safely go scuba diving. They will take you through the three main components of the course consisting of:

  • 1 Knowledge class
  • 2 Pool sessions
  • 4 Open water dives
  • 1 Online exam

The knowledge development section will be in a classroom setting or can be done through e-learning in the PADI App. It covers all the necessary topics like dive equipment, dive planning, safety procedures and hand signals.

Once we have covered the theory, we will head out to the swimming pool. Here you will learn and practice basic diving skills. Skills like breathing underwater, buoyancy control, and you will practice communication techniques with hand signals. This section of the course allows students to gain confidence and comfort in their gear and being underwater.

For the final stage of the course we will do four open water dives. During these dives you will apply the skills and knowledge you have learned to explore the underwater world. The open water dives typically take place over two days. During these dives, you will already get the chance to encounter marine life like sea lions, turtles, rays, sharks and many more. Of course this will all be under the watchful eye of our instructors.

Requirements

The PADI Open Water Course is designed for individuals 10 years and older and those who are medically fit for diving. However, it is essential that students are comfortable in the water and can swim at least 200 meters/650 feet. All requirements are according to PADI guidelines.

After your course

Once you successfully completed the PADI Open Water course by passing your exam you will receive your Open Water certification. This allows you to dive at any dive centre to a maximum depth of 18 meters/60 feet. This certification is recognized worldwide and opens up a whole new world to explore and many underwater adventures.

Completing your Open Water Course also allows you to take the PADI Advanced Open Water Course. The next step in your scuba diving adventure.
